Growing up in Southern New England, the seasons have always been a part of life. The first crisp air of autumn, the quiet after a winter snowstorm, the first buds of spring, and the warm evenings of an Ocean State Summer. <one more line here?>

My interest in photography and film started as a teenager with a camcorder, making BMX videos with friends from the neighborhood. That led to video production classes in high school, and eventually through a degree in communication technology and media studies in college. Somewherealong the way, still photography took over.

More about practice.

the way spring light hits Benefit Street differently than it did six months ago. Most of the work comes from going back to the same places, repeatedly, across different seasons and conditions, watching how they change. That repetition is part of the practice.

The goal when making a photograph has always been the same: to capture a single, unique moment in time and the feeling of being there.

A lot of the planning happens months in advance. Finding the right location, understanding where the light will be, waiting for the weather and the schedule to line up. And then, once everything is in place, just waiting for the right moment.

That same instinct for building things carefully over time carried into a career in software engineering, and eventually into building this site from the ground up as a platform for the work. If the technical side of that interests you, the [colophon](/colophon) has the full story.
